Formative Review

TVS -
  • manipulation of film, content in all?
  • caves are different from the other 3 - follow the caves with the sound, compliment each other.
  • real time and linear
  • 4 different landscapes and different colours.
  • all walking in 3, landscape moves in one, contrast
  • Going somewhere, moving into the distance, endless
  • Even when the person is no longer there the camera is still
  • Time is important, memory possibly
  • 'Nothing' places, no about that anymore as there are so many?
  • Collection of images, caves put people off as the different one or 'odd one out' if all were different wouldnt be so off putting.
  • Question intention of manipulations, is it any longer necessary?
  • The romantic and sublime images are reminiscent of the past, the saturation and quality, the caves seems more futuristic.
  • Like paintings - especially field.
  • Echo of perspective, shift from flat plains to perspective points. Clearly a factor.
  • Horizontal vs vertical perspectives. Renaissance
  • Characters and landscapes, any relationships? Time travel, journey, in the caves like he's being taken.
  • Cant see where the others are going but in the caves, feels quite claustrophobic, watching continuously.
  • Can use your imagination for those that disappear.
  • Sound contrasts the images, futuristic and digital vs. natural.
  • Stressed as you find something in the images to follow.
  • Ambient sound?
PROJECTION
  • like the size of the image, much more effective - but TV screens like that they can be viewed together, separately
  • TV works better as a relationship together, more natural
  • Projection played backwards etc more awkward and obvious, doesn't work as well
  • unnatural vs naturally connected
  • What is the trickery about? Medium, what someone can do or more than that?
  • Dreamlike, against the reality of the manipulations - not real
  • More subtle beach one and the cave work.
  • The static vs the moving a good contradiction
  • 4 way set up works well, see against each other much more interesting
  • spaces - diagonal horizontal etc
  • Have the individual always walking away on purpose? Don't try to connect to them
  • Sublime, at odds with something that avoids romanticism
  • Sublime vs futuristic
  • How move through space in points of art history
  • metaphysics vs. paintings
  • performance of body through space
  • Moving photos
  • P (something) collective, HK119, Duchamp - rotoreliefs, Edvard Munch etc
  • Having one moving away and the location coming forward is optically demanding
  • Relationship between minimal structures through colour and painting
  • Acknowledge inspiration from paintings
