Research - metaphysical etc.

metaphysical |ˌmetəˈfizikəl|adjective1 of or relating to metaphysics : the essentially metaphysical question of the nature of the mind.based on abstract (typically, excessively abstract) reasoning : an empiricist rather than a metaphysical view of law.transcending physical matter or the laws of nature : Good and Evil are inextricably linked in a metaphysical battle across space and time.2 of or characteristic of the metaphysical poets.noun ( the Metaphysicals)the metaphysical poets.DERIVATIVESmetaphysically |-ik(ə)lē| adverb

  • Clarify notions by which people understand the world e.g. existence, objects properties, space and time, cause and effect, and possibility.
  • Ontology - basic categories of being and how they relate to each other.
  • Natural philosophy - now science
  • Derived from Greeks - 'beyond, upon, after' and 'physics' Aristotle - after books of physics
  • 'The science of the world beyond nature'
  • Epistemology - 'how do we know'
  • Aristotle's metaphysics divided into 3 parts - ontology - the study of being, classification of entities. Natural Theology - study of Gods, religion and the divine. Universal Science - study of principles, law of being.

multiverse |ˈməltiˌvərs|nounan infinite realm of being or potential being of which the universe is regarded as a part or instance.
  • hypothetical set of possible universes that together compromise everything that exists and can exist: space, time, matter, energy, physical laws.
  • William James idea, parallel universes within the multiverse
  • Structure and nature of each universe depends on multiverse hypothesis considered - cosmology, physics, astronomy, religion, philosophy, psychology, fiction and fantasy - also known as other dimensions, parallel worlds etc.
  • M-theory - created by collisions of universes, unlike quantum universe.
  • Anthropic principle - fine tuned for conscious life, different physical laws
  • Occams Razor - simplest explanation until proved false.
  • possible worlds are a way to explain probability
  • Trans-world identity, that the same thing exists identically in another universe.
  • Religion - the afterlife
  • Idea that universes lie within 'bubbles' of space and time, another bubble left an imprint on our own universe. Untestable?

Tutorial with Jenny 23.1.2012

  • Running simultaneously looks best. Colours complementary.
  • Stillness of person
  • 1 person with the camera 'tricks' or different people without as this would make more of a narrative, perhaps conventional - alieny/strange abduction.
  • When the person is still notice everything else.
  • Different points of perspective as camera is at different angles in each setting.
  • Can choose to view them together or as separate images.
  • Tunnel - black space, walking out of it. At first anticipation, expectation.
  • Multiverse.
  • Romantic journey, different people - more conventional.
  • Slow, where? Why? Thinking about walking.
  • Metaphysical.
  • Try out being surrounded
  • On a larger scale so the 'tricks' are a little more obvious - still very subtle.
  • Sea - thought it was the waves that had been manipulated physically.

Experiment with set up

1 way projection - worked well down a tunnel, but couldn't get it big enough.
2 way projection - annoyance when running together trying to work out the differences, when running from one to the other seemed pointless.
3 way projection - same as before, not enough space to be immersive. Try in lecture theatre.

1 way screen - too small.
2 way screen - annoyance - see above.
4 way screen - in a line works best, running simultaneously. Not as long/boring.

Playing with characters, the idea of the strange being taken to a mundane place and vice versa, beginnings of playing with camera:

Bike Reversed with feathers, mundane but surreal

Stirring tea, daydreaming

Lion drumming, playing with camera

Lion fake smoking

Lion sofa, too literal

Lion stirring tea too
